HISTORY OF JUNETEENTH

The history of Juneteenth dates back to June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans were informed of their freedom in Galveston, Texas. It serves as a celebration of emancipation and a reminder of the enduring struggle for equality. The Boston Juneteenth Committee is dedicated to preserving and promoting the historical significance of Juneteenth in the local community.

OUR ORGANIZATION

The Boston Juneteenth Committee is a community-based organization with a rich history of organizing the annual 'Juneteenth Emancipation Observance' event in Boston. Our members are passionate about educating, celebrating, and advocating for the awareness of Juneteenth, ensuring that its importance is recognized and honored by all.

Empowerment Through Knowledge

Our mission is to advance the understanding and appreciation of Juneteenth through community engagement, educational initiatives, and cultural events. By fostering a sense of unity and empowerment, we aim to create opportunities for meaningful discussions, learning, and celebration of African American heritage and the ongoing pursuit of equality.
